A Thought From Marilyn

Friday, September 30, 2011

The other day I was browsing the world wide web looking for my new "quote of the week" and I came across a quote by Marilyn Monroe that stuck out to me. It goes:

"No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little
girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't."

That fascinated me because Marilyn Monroe is known as one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood history. But when she was a little girl, nobody bothered to tell her that she was pretty. I think it's incredibly sad when little girls, or any girls for that matter don't think they're pretty. It can lead to a handful of destructive behaviors, a few of which Marilyn herself exhibited. Although I don't condone her behavior or lifestyle, I do agree with her in this. All little girls should be told they're pretty, all teenage girls should be told they're pretty and all adult girls should be told they're pretty. Because you are.

Love,
        Brontë
