Dealing With Bad Days

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

As you can probably guess from the title of this post (and the picture), the past couple days have not been the best. In fact, they've been pretty crappy. I won't go into details because quite frankly, once I start writing about my days I won't stop and then you'd have to listen to me complain for an entire post and we don't want that. Instead I thought I'd put a more positive spin on things and tell you about the ways I deal with my bad days. (I should go into PR! Just kidding). Plus it may give you ideas on how to deal with your own bad days or just make you smile. That's the objective here. (See how I used what I'm learning in my acting class??) And yes, this is another list. I'm going to stop apologizing for having them in all my posts so... Deal with it. (Please) Anyway, here are some things I do when I'm having a particularly bad day (and I may or may not have done all of these things in the past couple days):

1. Cry. Sometimes I just need to have a good cry and feel really sorry for myself before I can start to feel better.
2. Pray. Asking for Heavenly Father's help ALWAYS works and it gives Him a chance to show me that He really is present in my life and cares about me. And it just makes me feel better.
3. Read Scriptures. Again, inviting the Spirit to be with me is an instant boost.
4. Exercise. Because "Exercise creates endorphins and endorphins make you happy and happy people don't shoot their husbands, they just don't!!" Thank you Elle Woods for these wise, wise words.
5. Go get ice-cream. Ice-cream is my comfort food of choice. Any other sugary food will probably work just as well. I just really like ice-cream.
6. Talk to my Mom. Because she's awesome. I got really really lucky in the Mom department. Just sayin'...
7. Scream into my pillow. Enough said.
8. Watch funny YouTube videos. Julian Smith is definitely a fave. Also Treadmill Fails. Yes, I do get pleasure out of people spectacularly face-planting it while on a treadmill. Or just in general. Moving on....
9. Listen to my "Cheer Up" Playlist. Yes, I do have one. And it is MAGNIFICENT.
10. Re-read letters from my Grandma Campbell, Gracie and my missionary friends. Also my Patriarchal Blessing. All of these have a special place in my heart and reading them makes me feel loved. As corny as that sounds.
11. Take a long, warm shower. The shower is where I do most of my deep thinking and is also where I make most of my important decisions. Just a fun fact.
12. Clean my room. Cleaning takes my mind off of whatever is bugging me and gives me a constructive outlet for my frustration.
13. Make myself look extra good. Now, I know that sounds really vain, but when I look good, I feel good. And it really is a consolation that even if everything else falls to pieces, I still looked good while it happened. Again, please forgive the vanity.
14. Go see a movie. A new movie, an old movie that I love.... It doesn't matter. I just love movies.
15. Go to the Temple. I always feel better after I go there.
16. Do service. Small or big. Yesterday I started tutoring at Lakeview and I love it!!
17. Read Anne of Green Gables. Or any of the other books in that series. The cheerfulness is catching.
18. Sing at the top of my lungs. Usually I'm alone. I'd hate to inflict that on someone.
19. Talk to my Best Friend. Another department where I scored. She's amazing!!
20. Go on a walk alone. It's a good way to clear my head and calm down.

Well, there you have it. There are plenty of other things to do when dealing with a bad day and I'm sure you all have your own as well. Feel free to share with me, I'm always looking for new ideas! Also sorry for this beastly long post, but I'm avoiding American Heritage homework. Plus blogging is a form of catharsis for me and now I feel a lot better!! Love you all!

Love,  Brontё
