What Are Men Compared to Rocks and Mountains?

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Yep I took this. With my actual camera.

I got to spend this past week in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains of Colorado high adventuring with my Dad, Aimee and various other cousins and uncles. It was pretty much the time of my life. And I actually took pictures (hooray!) which is nothing short of a miracle I tell you. Also, since we were camping I didn't wear make-up all week (personal rule) so try not to be too horrified.

This lovely little tent was Home Sweet Home for me, Aimee and our cousins Tess, Alyssa and Morganne. Needless to say it was horrendously messy by the end of the week.

On a rock overlooking our campsite. It had a pretty great view. (Ignore the Horrible Haircut)
I had to take at least one Asian tourist picture. The trip wouldn't have been complete without it.
Me and the Aimster. If you know Aimee, you'll know how miraculous this picture actually is.
Climbed that.

Those harnesses are super attractive. I know

We're a pretty cool family.

Feeding chipmunks. Childhood dream fulfilled. Just call me Snow White.
Remember how I LOVE sunsets? Colorado definitely delivered.
On Wednesday we hiked Mount Elbert, which just so happens to be the 2nd highest mountain in the lower 48 states. Probably the hardest physical thing I have ever done in my life (partly because Mother Nature delivered me a lovely little gift that morning, and partly because I'm SUPER out of shape). But I made to to the Summit! And it was so SO worth it. I learned a lot about myself. I can do hard things. I can push myself beyond the limit. And I will always have family and friends to help me along the way.

Oh yeah, and we started at 5:30am. This is a sunrise people.

Just admire my photography skills for a minute.

Lovin' me some blue skies.

We made it! There was some weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, but WE MADE IT!!!

So the pressure and air temperature is weird up there and my hand got SUPER swollen. It looked like a balloon.

This is Bubba. Bubba was my hiking stick. I would not have made it to the Summit without Bubba. May Bubba have a long and happy life assisting hikers to the Summit of Mount Elbert and not be made into firewood. Amen.

I may or may not have relieved myself in these rocks on the way down. And that's probably way more information than you ever needed to know.

On Thursday we went White Water Rafting. I was super scared at first, but after we made it through our first rapid my fear evaporated and it was a BLAST! I didn't even get sunburned! However I didn't take many pictures because, well, I didn't want to drop my camera in the river. Call me crazy. Anyway, it was so much fun and our guides were really awesome (and incredibly attractive, I think I'm going to go rafting more often...) and we all had so so so much fun!

Overall it was an awesome week, so thank you to my Uncle Rob for planning this whole thing and thanks to my Dad and Aimee coming with me and making it a week to remember. Now I'm super exhausted so I'm going to spend the day laying on the couch in yoga pants watching the Olympics. Happy Weekend!

Love, Brontё
