Enthralled with the Heavens

-Galileo

I decided to take an Astronomy class this semester, just for fun. It doesn't count towards any of my generals or my major or anything, but I've always been fascinated with the sky and the stars and hey, this is college and I'm paying for it, so I might as well take classes that I think are interesting right? And guess what? It is quickly becoming my favorite class!

Granted, I've only been to two lectures, so I may be eating my words in two weeks when I actually have to start doing homework and math (heaven forbid!), but let's just appreciate this for a moment shall we? I mean, it's a pretty rare occasion that a SCIENCE class of all classes would be my favorite.

Maybe it's the fact that I chose to take this class by my own free will.

Or maybe it's because on the first day of class my professor said: "If you're not enthralled with the heavens by the end of my class, I haven't done my job." I love that phrase. Hence the title of this post.

It might also be the fact that I have felt the Spirit more strongly in this class than in some religion classes I've taken, and I've only been to the class twice!

Maybe that's the real reason I love the stars and the sky. To me they are hard, solid evidence that God exists. Knowing that He created all of it.... the Earth, the stars, galaxies without number in all of their incredible wonder and beauty, is a huge testimony builder for me. The more I learn, I see the careful organization of the Universe and there is no way that happened by accident.

So I watch the sky and count the stars, because it reminds me of my Father in Heaven. I see the beauty of the Universe and all of the sudden, the bad things don't seem so bad and the hard things don't seem as hard. The majesty and splendor of it all reminds me of why I'm here, and where I want to go. I love every last bit of it!

So here's to the Heavens, in all of their enthralling, majestic glory. It's going to be a good semester!

Love, Brontë

P.S. We watched this video in my class today. It made me all teary, for reasons mentioned above.
