Slipping, Falling and Other Adventures as of Late

Monday, January 28, 2013

Every year I make a goal to make it all Winter without slipping and falling on the ice. Unfortunately, I'm not a naturally graceful person, so this actually takes a lot of concentration and effort. (It's also the reason I never ice-skate).

So when this past Thursday and it's Freezing Rain happened, I was determined to keep my goal. I did the penguin shuffle to class along with every other BYU student, and actually made it to all of my classes without falling once. I was feeling pretty good about myself, and by the time my seven o'clock rehearsal rolled around I couldn't help bragging a little.

"I haven't fallen all day! I'm so proud of myself!"

FAMOUS LAST WORDS. Thank you Karma Gods for keeping me humble.

I get to the last step down the stairs to my apartment complex and BAM! I slipped and fell hard on my butt. Aside from the fact that it was rather painful, I was literally TEN FEET away from my apartment. So yeah, I was forced to eat my words. They didn't taste very good.

Little did I know that that was only the beginning. On Saturday I had a monster marathon of rehearsals for the two student directed shows I'm in this semester (the first one Shattering Sky is this Thursday at 1, 2 and 4 pm in the Nelke Theatre at BYU if you want to come! We always love the support! Okay, shameless plug over. But really. Come).

Anyway, during one of the rehearsals I was on the lift doing a scene where I was sitting in a desk talking on the phone. When I was done with the phone, I hung up and turned to walk behind the chair I had been sitting in and BAM!

I FELL OFF THE STAGE.

Everyone stopped and kind of stared at me for a minute until I gave a feeble little "I'm okay...." and started laughing kind of painfully, like "Hahahahaha that hurt so bad hahahahaha!"

I now have some pretty gnarly purple and black bruises on my right arm and leg, which I'm sort of proud of until I remember how I got them. Also, I ended up running into a wall as well, which was just kind of pathetic. Yes, I am still President of the Nub Club.

In other news, I saw Phantom of the Opera a week and a half ago and it was AMAZING!!! It never ceases to amaze me how talented my friends are, and I feel so lucky to be a part of the Theatre and Media Arts Department. So if you have the chance you should definitely  go see Phantom. You won't be disappointed.

Also, discovered this tumblr called Asleep at BYU and it's the best discovery I've made in a long time (probably because I love taking pictures of people sleeping in public and now I don't feel like such a creep).  It's basically a blog full of people sleeping at random places on campus. Pure gold I tell you.

Stay wonderful!

Love, Brontë

P.S. Congratulations to my cousin Morganne on getting engaged! Love you girlie!
