The Nub Club

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Since coming to college my best friend Loryn and I have started what we call the Nub Club. The Nub Club is a group of people (so far just us) who frequently do or say dumb, clumsy, awkward or embarrassing things. Here's a few examples of Nubbiness from my first month at BYU:

Nubby thing #1: A nice boy I just met is holding the door open for me as we walk out of the Smith Fieldhouse. I then proceed to trip over his foot, and somehow manage to take his shoe with me in the process. While I'm apologizing, I remember that I left something in the building so I turn to go back in, leaving the poor boy standing there hopelessly confused. Oops.

Nubby thing #2: I shattered a cup in the Cannon Center. Not just broke. Shattered. I'm just going a long, minding my own business, trying to get some chocolate milk to go with my breakfast. I'm also trying to do it somewhat attractively because there is a VERY cute boy right next to me getting cereal. So I grab a cup and head over to the milk machine (with a somewhat casual and totally-not-on-purpose hair flip) and barely knock my glass on the handle. And it shatters. In my hands. I stare at it, and everyone is staring at me and instead of setting it down and finding someone to help like a normal person I say "Wow, I didn't know my own strength!" And then proceed to stand there for several more seconds before I go look for someone to help, with the cup fragments still in my hands. Yeah, I'm a genius.

Nubby thing # 3: Saying hi to someone who looks EXACTLY like your friend but isn't. Twice. To the same person.

Nubby thing #4: Not being able to eat salad like a normal person and instead having it all fall out of your mouth multiple times. And then having your supervisor from work walk by and stare at you awkwardly.

Nubby thing #5: Telling your TA about your past love life (that she has absolutely no interest in) when you just meant to tell her you liked the film she showed in lab that day.

So there you have it. I hope you've enjoyed this chapter of Nubbiness in the life of Brontë.
Love you!

  1. Too funny! I definitely could have been president of that club when I was at the Y. . . or now.
