Traveller: One who travels or has traveled, as to distant places. (British spelling)
I'm actually writing this post from JFK Airport in NYC, because I have a stinking 11 hour layover here. (Not that I'm complaining.... Okay maybe a little. 11 hours is a long time!) Anyway, I can still hardly believe that I'm on my way to Ireland! I mean, I've been planning for this for months and months so it's a little surreal that I'm sitting in an airport 5 hours away from getting on a plane that will take me the farthest I've ever been away from home in my life. But despite being slightly terrified, I couldn't be more excited! It's already been quite the adventure and I haven't even been gone for a full day yet!
So yesterday, the day I was supposed to leave, I woke up with a slight case of the flu. Which is not fun to travel with, let me tell you. But thanks to a priesthood blessing, water, cough drops and ibuprofen I'm going to make it! I'm not feeling 100% better yet, but it is manageable so thank you to everyone for your prayers on my behalf. They are definitely being felt!
Also, here are a few adventures I've had/things I've learned thus far:
-Maybe don't drink a full waterbottle before you get on a plane. And if you do, you should go to the bathroom before the plane takes off. This will save you an agonizing half hour of waiting for the seatbelt light to turn off so you can make a dash for the bathroom.
-Take full advantage of the sleep mask the airline provides you with. If all else fails, it will keep you in a light doze.
-Sleeping on the floor of the airport is a perfectly acceptable social norm. And surprisingly comfortable.
-Most TSA people aren't very friendly, so just smile at them and move through the line quickly.
-The muffins in JFK are seriously overpriced. I mean $3 for a muffin? Outrageous.
-The airtrain is definitely not as complicated as it seems.
Love, Brontë
P.S. Pictures to come soon!
