Becoming a World Traveller: Books and Ice-Cream and Castles

These are a few of my favorite things...

This is my post about Hay-on-Wye and the first time I saw a real castle. This actually happened about a month ago, so this will probably mostly be pictures. But you know, enjoy.

Hay-on-Wye is a small town in Wales that is famous for bookshops. 35 to be exact. And if you know anything about me, you'll know that I LOVE books. And reading. And bookshops. So basically this town was heaven. Books everywhere, I swear, I was like a kid in a candy shop.

What a useful book.

I decided to only allow myself to buy ONE book, because otherwise I would have gone crazy and brought home a suitcase full of books (which isn't a bad thing, just expensive to take on an airplane). After much thought and contemplation, I chose a book of Emily Dickinson poems. Which is kind of ironic, because she's an American author and you would think that I'd choose something a little more British but..... Nope. Also while I was in Hay-on-Wye I tripped off the curb and broke my sandal, thankfully I was able to fix it with super glue (more about this in a later post).

While in Hay-on-Wye I got some fantastic jersey style ice-cream with a FLAKE which is basically a big stick of chocolate that they put in your soft ice-cream. It was fabulous. Unfortunately I ate it so fast that I didn't get a picture.

After Hay-on-Wye we went to see two REAL LIFE CASTLES. Guys. It was a dream come true. I mean, when you spend a good portion of your childhood pretending/thinking you are a princess, seeing your first real castle is a big deal. I seriously almost cried. Almost.

Grosmont Castle

And then we got to go to another castle! Skenfrith, it was called. I quickly discovered that exploring castles is one of my favorite activities.

I really love castles.

Love, Brontë
