chyffwrdd!
St. Fagans is a big open air museum/historical site of Welsh culture and history. We spent a morning there and just got to walk around and see the different exhibits and tour the "castle" (it was more like a manor house). It was absolutely gorgeous and there was a lot to see.
At one point in the day we were walking through this set of coal miner's cottages. They had set them up so that each cottage was from a different time period. They were really cute, also there were NO signs ANYWHERE that said do not touch. In one of them there was a stack of old books and I wanted to see if they were written in Welsh (they were) so I gently lifted the cover of the top book.
"PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THAT!"
Was the next thing I heard. I turned around to see one of the museum workers (who had not been there two seconds before) in a slight panic. I quickly dropped the cover and apologized profusely, then made a hasty exit. She sort of tailed me the rest of the time I was by the cottages, so I was extra careful not to touch even the ropes that separated the walkway from the exhibit.
Later in the day we visited a couple quoits. A quoit is a neolithic burial site, and well, here are pictures:
They're pretty cool. And fun to climb, if you couldn't tell.
After the quoits we headed to Old Beaupre Castle. Getting there was quite the adventure, as we had to trek through three pastures full of sheep. I made the poor decision of wearing sandals that day, so I was focused on NOT stepping in sheep poo. I'm happy to report that I was successful. Also at Old Beaupre I discovered that I like taking pictures in windows. More fulfillment of childhood princess dreams.
Love, Brontë
